Today I had some problems with my Windows Vista computer, which were exacerbated by the fact that I could not check the System Event Log. When I clicked that node in the Event Viewer snap-in, I received the error:
Event viewer cannot open the event log or custom view. Verify that event log
service is running. The data is invalid. (13)
But the Windows Event Log service was running, and I could view the other event logs just fine.
Clearing the event log fixed the problem.
